A Memorial Hermann Life Flight nurse, at left, and paramedic prepare a critical trauma patient to be transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The patient, who had been struck in the head with a hammer,was unconscious upon the flight crew's arrival. On-scene providers had secured his airway. They requested Life Flight to transport him to the trauma center because of the severity of his injuries and condition, and because the incident happened about 23 miles from the nearest trauma center.
