FONTANA, Calif. -- Two people died when their vehicle collided with a paramedic vehicle returning from an emergency call early Saturday morning.
The San Bernardino County Fire-Paramedic truck was traveling south on Sierra Avenue when it was struck by an Oldsmobile Alero at 2:35 a.m. The Alero was traveling east on Randall at the time of the collision, according to a San Bernardino County Coroner news release.
Emergency personnel from other stations responded to remove the two Alero occupants. Sateki Latu, 21 and Talai Livai, 21, both from Fontana, were declared dead at the scene. The Fontana Police Department is investigating the collision.
Alcohol was found inside the Alero, according to a press release from Fontana police. It is not know if either person killed had been drinking.
One of the paramedics suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
Tracey Martinez, public information officer for the San Bernardino County Fire, said Saturday she was unable to give any further information on the collision because the incident is being handled by the Fontana police Major Accident Investigation Team.
