A pickup truck with four teens inside ran a red light at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Green River Road early Wednesday and crashed into an ambulance, according to the Evansville Police Department.
The wreck sent all four teens and the ambulance driver, who was alone in that vehicle, to the hospital.
Two others, who told police they had been chasing the truck, were arrested at the scene of the 1:06 a.m. wreck.
Cynthia Bean, 18, of Patoka, Ind., the driver of the 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup that was westbound on Lincoln, told officers the chase began in Newburgh.
Brandon Oldham, 19, told police he was chasing the truck because the people in it had tried to steal items from his vehicle, according to a police report.
While investigating the wreck, officers told Oldham to stay in his car because his walking distracted them.
When Oldham objected, officers told him to get into his car or he would be arrested. When he did, an officer shut his door, and Oldham opened it back up. He told officers he could do it himself and began cursing at them, according to the affidavit. Oldham was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement.
Quintin Dormeier, 20, a passenger in Oldham's car, was arrested for alleged public intoxication.
The collision between the truck and ambulance sent both vehicles to the southwest side of the intersection, where the truck struck a utility pole and the ambulance came to rest at the sidewalk.
Bean and two of her passengers, Barrett Myles and James Koker, were extricated and taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. The other passenger, Dillon Neese, was able to get out of the truck on his own and went to the hospital on his own, according to police.
The ambulance driver, Cole Goerges, 23, was also taken to St. Mary's Medical Center.
A hospital official said Wednesday afternoon that all except Bean had been treated and released. Bean was listed in good condition.
