GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Rescue crews in Tennessee are trying to rescue a hiker stranded on a ledge near Margarette Falls.

The Greeneville Sun (http://bit.ly/1eUYV2E) reports Greene and Washington county rescue squads tried to reach the person overnight but weren't successful.

Bucky Ayers of the Greene County Rescue Squad told the newspaper that it became unsafe for rescuers to climb, and it was too windy to get a helicopter to the climber's position.

He says local officials are working with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to try to bring in a military helicopter for the rescue about 80 miles east of Knoxville.

Ayers says the climber was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt but was able to build a fire during the night.

A second hiker fell from the ledge Thursday and was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
