WASHINGTON (MyFoxDC) - A sport utility vehicle plowed into a line of people waiting for a food giveaway late Wednesday morning in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington D.C.
D.C. Fire and EMS transported four people who were struck to three different hospitals. A spokesman for the department said it appeared that the worst injury was a broken leg.
It happened on an alley called Columbia Court where 300 to 400 people typically gather on Wednesdays for a food giveaway organized by Change, Inc.
Metropolitan Police officers asked the driver of the SUV to take a field sobriety test. She apparently passed that test because she was then not subsequently taken into custody.
The driver did appear to be very remorseful about the accident, standing outside her vehicle and placing her head in her folded arms for minutes at a time. Later, she declined to explain to reporters what had happened. One of her passengers also declined an interview.
A spokesperson for D.C. Police says all four victims were adult women. According to the spokesperson, no arrest was made at the scene of the accident, but the incident is still under investigation.
