Several Children Hurt in Rhode Island Bus Crash

Six were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital for neck and back injuries

| Wednesday, June 23, 2010

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A fire official says several children and a bus driver were hurt when a car apparently rear-ended the bus in Providence, wedging under the bus up to its windshield.

Fire Chief Timothy McDaniel tells The Associated Press that about five or six children aged approximately 8- to 11-years-old were taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital after the Tuesday afternoon accident. He says most of them were complaining of neck and back injuries.

McDaniel says the bus driver was very upset, and she and the driver of the car were taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

He did not know what school the children attend, but said they went to public schools. A spokeswoman for the school department did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
