LAS VEGAS - Police say a 17-year-old driver was killed and six passengers were hurt when a sport utility vehicle crashed in a desert area in northwest Las Vegas.
Authorities said Friday that three of the injured were hospitalized in critical condition.
Las Vegas police say there were eight people in the 1990 GMC Jimmy, ranging in age from 15 to 22. Most were from Las Vegas, and one was from Cedar City, Utah. A 15-year-old girl in the vehicle escaped injury.
Police say some were ejected when the vehicle crashed a little after 6 p.m. Thursday off-road near North Durango Drive and Moccasin Road, not far from Floyd Lamb State Park.
Sgt. Richard Strader told the Las Vegas Sun that several cases of beer were found around the vehicle after the crash.
