Ohio Ambulance Service's Staff Reduced from 66 to 14

The service said it had to make changes after a city-run medical transport program was created

MASSILLON, Ohio — Declining revenue has forced Smith Ambulance of Stark-Summit to relocate its corporate headquarters and shift most of its employees out of Massillon to other facilities.

In the last two years, Smith has moved roughly 66 full- and part-time jobs out of the city, reducing its work force to 14 employees. Operations at the Erie Street facility ceased in mid-September after the company’s dispatching center, wheelchair division, marketing and human resource departments were merged with existing offices in Dover and Canton, according to Robert Smith, who serves as president of Smith Ambulance of Stark-Summit and Smith Ambulance Service, which serves Tuscarawas County.
