NEW YORK (AP) — New York City fire officials say a freight elevator inside a Manhattan building fell three floors, injuring 22 people.

Emergency units responded to the seven-story commercial building in Chelsea at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Fire officials say all the injuries were minor, but nine people were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The landmark 1896 building houses clothing and home furnishing retailers. It's located on Sixth Avenue between 18th and 19th streets.
