9-Year Old Uses CPR To Save Brother

"He kind of pushed me aside a little, and just did it,"

When Tabitha Hearn pulled her unconscious 2-year-old from the family's backyard pool Thursday night, she was so shaken up, her older son stepped in.

"I just said, 'Move,' " said 9-year-old Logan, who saved his brother Brendan's life by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Brendan had sneaked outside his family's Joliet home when he was discovered by his mother in the pool, "floating, face down" and "blue."

Hearn pulled Brendan out of the water and called 911, but then she panicked.

That's when Logan took over. "He kind of pushed me aside a little, and just did it," Hearn said.

Logan, who is trained in CPR, blew two breaths into Brendan before the younger boy started coughing. Then, Logan noticed his brother's chest moving and also noticed shallow breathing

Brendan was taken to an area hospital after paramedics arrived. He remained unconscious until Friday morning, when he was nudged by his pint-sized hero.

"Come on, buddy. You've got to wake up," Logan told his sibling, rubbing his arms.

And with that, Brendan opened his eyes.

"It means a lot to me to know that my son has the confidence and training to react in a situation like that," the boys' father, Brent Hearn, said of Logan's quick reaction.

"And I'm very proud of him."
