SANDOWN, N.H. - The Eagle-Tribune reports that a Sandown firefighter, and Care Plus Ambulance Service paramedic, has died of an apparent heart attack during ice rescue training.

Harold Frey, 46, was participating in a ice training lesson on the Exeter River on Sunday. According to Sandown Fire Chief Wilfred Tapley and Deputy State Fire Marshal William Degnan, Frey complained of shortness of breath as he exited the water.

Shortly afterward, Frey collapsed and became unconcious. Paramedics on the scene tried to revive Frey but were unsuccessful. Frey was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A longtime member of the Epping Fire Department, The Eagle-Tribune reports that Frey had recently joined the Sandown Fire Department after recently moving to Sandown. Frey was also employed as a paramedic with Care Plus Ambulance Service, Inc. in Manchester.

The New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office, along with the Sandown Police and Fire departments, is investigating the death.
