MILFORD, N.H. -- The town is getting its ducks in a row before breaking ground on a new ambulance facility, as early as this fall.
Earlier this month, voters approved funding for the $2.2 million facility, which would move the Milford Ambulance Service out of its cramped quarters beneath Town Hall into a new building on Elm Street, where Harvey's Music is located.
New ambulances, which are needed and overdue, wouldn't fit in the ambulance service's current space.
Town Administrator Guy Scaife said the town is doing its due diligence to ensure the proposed location is best. An environmental assessment is being done to ensure there aren't any problems. The town had settled on a lot on Cottage Street for the facility but found there were possible environmental concerns associated with that parcel, so the Elm Street location was selected.
The environmental report is due in the next week or so, Scaife said.
The town also has to secure a driveway easement onto the common driveway that connects the current SHARE building and Robbins Auto Parts with Elm Street, which could take a few weeks.
On Monday night, the board will select a building committee comprised of town officials and residents who will, "map out the next step," Scaife said.
"We have a preliminary design but we don't have a final design that's ready to go out to bid," said Scaife.
The building committee will perfect that final design and then request proposals from contractors.
The Harvey's building will have to be taken down, but Scaife said that part of the process would not be time-consuming.
