Illinois College EMT-P Program Receives National Accreditation

ICC is one of only six accredited programs in the state

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Paramedic Program at Illinois Central College has received accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

This national accreditation ensures that the ICC program complies with national standards and will provide ICC graduates of the program expanded opportunities for jobs, according to Mike Dant, program director.

ICC is one of only six accredited programs in the state of Illinois and the only college or university with an accredited program. The other five accredited programs are those that are affiliated with medical institutions, such as Loyola.

"This national endorsement shows that ICC's program adheres to the rigorous standards after a peer review, and it also means that graduates of our program will be eligible for a national license since new regulations require EMT-Paramedics to have completed an accredited program in order to be eligible for a national license," Dant says. Accreditation also included peer review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions, the organization that will regularly monitor the program's compliance and documentation.

ICC currently enrolls about 200 students in the Emergency Medical Technician Basic and Intermediate level programs. Its more advanced EMT - Paramedic program started in 2005 and currently enrolls about 20 students.
