NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Coast Guard and two fire departments were called to assist a grounded tug and barge with two crew members aboard near Norfolk.
The Coast Guard says it received a call Tuesday morning that the construction tug and barge went aground near Ocean View. The crew members were trying to remove equipment from the barge and were showing signs of hypothermia.
Units from the Virginia Beach and Norfolk fire departments provided first aid and helped the crew members to an awaiting ambulance.
The Coast Guard says the barge was carrying dredge equipment and there were no signs of pollution. The cause of the grounding is under investigation.
