LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach officials say three people have survived a crash that tore a car in half and totaled another.

Fire Department spokesman Steve Yamamoto says firefighters were called to Spring Street shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday and found a car ripped in half. The front end and the front and back seats were sitting on the street and the back of the car had been hurled down an embankment.

The 27-year-old woman driver and a 9-year-old boy were freed from the car and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor to moderate injuries.

Yamamoto says a man was pulled from a badly damaged second car. He's described as having moderate to serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
