During this incident, Hauppauge (N.Y.) Fire Department and Central Islip Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance responded to a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a car on a county road. On arrival, crews found an unresponsive adult male with multiple injuries to his head and extremities. EMTs quickly immobilized the patient and established a clear airway. The patient was stabilized and placed into a waiting ambulance. He was transported to a nearby landing zone and airlifted to a Level I trauma center in Stony Brook. Assisting at the scene were responders from the Suffolk County Police Department and its aviation unit, as well as the Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services.JEMS
