MIAMI -- An SUV slammed into a Miami fire-rescue truck that was taking a patient to Jackson Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning.
The accident occurred just after midnight at Flagler Street and Northwest 12th Avenue in Miami.
Miami fire-rescue Engine 24 was transporting a female patient to Jackson Memorial Hospital. As the ambulance traveled north on Northwest 12th Avenue, lights and sirens on, it collided with a Jeep Liberty that was traveling west on Flagler Street. The impact sent the Jeep sliding on its side along the sidewalk.
Paramedics extricated the 60-year-old female driver from the SUV while an off-duty Miami police sergeant -- who witnessed the accident -- assisted the patient in the ambulance.
The patient and a family member who was in the ambulance at the time of the accident were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in good condition. The driver of the Jeep was transported to Jackson's Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition with minor head injuries.
None of the three paramedics on the truck were injured.Miami police cited the Jeep driver with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
