Bedford Memorial Hospital is required by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, a national accrediting organization to hold a mass casualty drill each year. The drill held this year, three months in the planning, had to involve community emergency responders. The idea was to test the hospital's ability to interface with the emergency services people who would bring the injured to the emergency room, as well as the emergency room's ability to handle the sudden influx of victims.
The drill's scenario was an explosion and Bedford Science and Technology Center (BSTC) students enrolled in he EMT class, the LPN school and the Junior ROTC program portrayed the victims.
