MONOC Adds EMS Physician MD-1 Program

| Friday, January 20, 2012

In a continuing effort to better serve their patients throughout New Jersey, MONOC Mobile Health Services has recently added a program called MD-1. This program calls for emergency physicians to respond directly to the scene of certain life threatening calls to assist MONOC paramedics already on location. Physicians will respond in a specially designated emergency vehicle specifically outfitted with life saving equipment and medication otherwise only scene inside a hospital. MD-1 will respond to significant scenes such as patient entrapments taking more than an hour to free, mass casualty events, and major events with extended duration. While on scene, the MD-1 physician will be available to provide both direction as well as advanced medical interventions.

Leading the program will be Dr. Mark Merlin, a new member of MONOC’s Medical Advisory Board as well as the Chair of the EMS/Disaster Medicine Fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Medical Director for the New Jersey EMS Task Force. Dr. Merlin is a welcome addition to MONOC and has been present at several large scale events over the years.

MONOC Mobile Health Services is a non-profit hospital cooperative consisting of 16 acute care hospitals located throughout New Jersey. Formed in 1978 MONOC’s mission is to improve health care and reduce costs.
