Most people train to be a paramedic in a five month course, but in a three-week class, members of the military and Kansas National Guard will not only learn everything a normal emergency responder will learn, but how to do it under fire.
Russell Clark, who is an E-6 Staff Sgt. and a full-time MICT paramedic with Butler County Emergency Services, said there are 15 students in the current class from various states.
After the training, they will have learned exactly what EMT's in Kansas know, and they will have taken the same exams, Clark said.
The military personnel taking the class range in age from 22 to 42. Many have done tours in Afghanistan or Iraq, and re-deploy.
