CHICAGO – The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announced its partnership today with the National
Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). The AAP and NAEMT signed an agreement that
recognizes the value of collaborating with all providers in the continuum of pediatric emergency care.

As part of the new agreement, the AAP has invited NAEMT to appoint a member to serve as a liaison on
several AAP work groups, including the AAP Section on Emergency Medicine Emergency Medical Services
(EMS) Subcommittee, which helps form AAP guidelines related to pediatric emergency medical services. A
representative from NAEMT will also serve on planning committees for medical education courses and the
Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) course, a continuing education program that covers the
critical knowledge and skills needed to rapidly evaluate, stabilize, and transport the pediatric patient.

“As an organization dedicated to the health of children, the AAP naturally wanted to partner with NAEMT,”
said Thomas K. McInerny, MD, FAAP, AAP president. “By joining forces, both organizations will benefit by
enhancing pediatric education for the pediatric emergency medicine physician, as well as for the EMS
professional.”

NAEMT will reciprocate by inviting an AAP representative to serve as a liaison to NAEMT's Emergency
Pediatric Care (EPC) Committee, EPC is a continuing education program that focuses on the care of sick and
injured children. Additionally, NAEMT will explore opportunities for AAP members to become more engaged
with EMS World and present valuable AAP content at this national EMS conference. Furthermore, NAEMT
will consider adoption of the PEPP, 3rd Edition as the recommended textbook for NAEMTs Emergency
Pediatric Care course.

“The fit with AAP and NAEMT is a natural,” said NAEMT President Don Lundy. “The collaboration between
both organizations will improve the pediatric education arena, as well as build the communication between
these two organizations. It is a tremendous statement as to the commitment from both organizations to build and
improve on pediatric education of the EMS practitioner.”
