Boca Raton, FL – November 7, 2013— Atrus, Inc., creators of the innovative AED Link™ system and the National AED Registry™, announces that Maryland EMS veteran Rick Himes has joined the company as a business development representative.

Atrus is developing a Maryland AED Registry website for the Maryland Institute of EMS Services (MIEMSS). Mr. Himes will primarily work with Maryland dispatch centers in implementing Atrus’ AED Link system.

“We are excited about Rick joining our team. He brings with him a broad background with Maryland EMS systems and AED programs” said Elliot Fisch, Atrus’ President/CEO and co-founder.

“I was overwhelmed by the possibilities of the AED Link program. The first moment I saw the concept I understood the implications of improving cardiac arrest survival. Using technology to match up SCA victims with AEDs in a short period of time is a major step in completing the chain of survival. Every community should have this program” Mr. Himes said.

Rick recently retired as the Bureau Chief of Professional Services for Frederick County, MD where he oversaw the Training, Safety, Health and Wellness and Information Technology departments. Frederick County performed the pilot program to assess the feasibility of using Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) by basic life support personnel. The program was a success and AEDs were added to the Maryland Protocols as a result of their work.

In addition, he was responsible for introducing AED's to law enforcement including sheriffs’ offices as well as local Maryland State Police vehicles. For his work, Rick received a citation for outstanding public service by the Superintendent of the Maryland State Police.

Rick has served as the Chairman of the Maryland Paramedic Education Committee, the first Chairman of the MIEMSS Jurisdictional Advisory Committee and as the Training Committee Chairman for the local Emergency Management Policy Advisory Committee.

Rick is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, a certified Chief Fire Officer with the Center for Public Safety Excellence and serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Frederick County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

About Atrus
Atrus’ AED Link is a cloud-based technology that provides registered AED location information to 9-1-1 call takers in real time during a SCA call. This information lets them inform a secondary bystander about that AEDs location in order to retrieve it if needed. The system also auto-notifies trained registered responders affiliated with that AED to have them bring it on scene. All of this is done without call taker involvement or extra agency work.
AED Link is currently installed in 26 EMS systems in California, Florida, Minnesota, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Canada and the Cayman Islands. It operates in 255 municipalities with a population of over 5 million.
