Gucciardi and Hendricks Assume Chief Officer Posts at Welch Allyn

Skaneateles Falls, NY, January 20, 2012—Welch Allyn, a leading global manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today announced Scott Gucciardi has been named executive vice president & chief marketing officer and Karen Hendricks has been appointed executive vice president & chief new product development and technology officer. Together, the two bring more than 50 years of industry experience to the positions, including 30 years at the company.

As chief marketing officer, Gucciardi will lead the global marketing function and bring together a customer-focused organization that will drive the company’s product strategy—including customer solutions founded upon Welch Allyn capabilities in healthcare workflow efficiency, patient safety improvement and risk reduction, and timely electronic access to accurate diagnostic data to inform patient care decisions. In the role of chief new product development and technology officer, Hendricks will lead the execution of research and development, including state-of-the-art sensor and hardware design, complementary software development, efficient integration of third-party partners, health IT connectivity capabilities, and support enabled by a remote service system. Gucciardi and Hendricks will report directly to Welch
Allyn President and CEO, Julie Shimer.

The new role Karen has taken on will leverage her experience in technology as well as research and development to create solutions that best fit our customers’ needs.”

Gucciardi most recently served as executive vice president, new product development. In this capacity, Gucciardi was responsible for overseeing all functions within research and development. Gucciardi has been with Welch Allyn since 1990 and has held several positions including senior vice president, global product management and R&D, and vice president, diagnostic cardiology business and health IT connectivity.

Gucciardi earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Clarkson University and master of business administration degree from the University of Rochester Simon School. He is first vice president on the board of directors of Aurora of Central New York, the agency serving blind and deaf individuals, and is a member of the advisory board of the Salvation Army Syracuse Area Services. He is also a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society.

Hendricks most recently served as executive vice president, technology and innovation where she investigated emerging technologies and interacted closely with business partners to influence the strategic direction toward an innovative and platform-based product portfolio. Hendricks joined Welch Allyn in 2001 and has held a variety of research and development roles within the company. Prior to Welch Allyn, Hendricks worked for 15 years at 3Com and Motorola and has expertise in embedded system design and development, architecture and systems engineering, wireless network protocols and software and hardware design. She holds an engineering degree from the University of
