MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis firefighter is recovering at home after cardiac arrest and what he and his wife believe was providential help.
Kenneth Richmond collapsed in the office of Bon Lin Middle School on Aug. 18 as he checked out his children for an orthodontist appointment. Dawn Graves was also in the office to take her child to a doctor appointment. She's a cardiac care nurse.
The Commercial Appeal reported when the 41-year-old Richmond fell to the floor, Graves began CPR and assistant principal Jeremy Yow quickly grabbed the automated external defibrillator the school received last year.
Paramedics administered additional shocks as they took Richmond to a hospital, where a device was implanted in his chest to regulate his heart rhythm.
Richmond's wife, Serbrina, said it was like angels were watching over her husband.
