San Diego City Council Declares EMS Week

On Monday San Diego Councilmember Marti Emerald declared the week of May 19, 2014 EMS Week in the City of San Diego. Staff from San Diego Fire-Rescue and Rural/Metro were in attendence, including San Diego Fire-Rescue Fire Chief Javier Mainar, Rural/Metro Director of Public Affairs Michael Simonsen, and Rural/Metro and San Diego Project Heart Beat Community Relations Specialist Loralee Olejnik.

Text of the declaration is below:

EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicines’ front line. On this day, the City will recognize EMS staff consisting of paramedics, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, emergency medical dispatchers, emergency physicians, emergency nurses, educators, administrators, fleet mechanics, and others.

Employees of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and Rural/Metro successfully work together to provide high quality service to our citizens 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is important to recognize the innovation, hard work, and coordinated efforts that City and Rural/Metro employees contribute to our EMS program.

“As the Chair of the City’s Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee, I am committed to providing safe neighborhoods and delivering resources. Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury and we want to thank all the men and women of EMS who provide quality emergency care to San Diegans,” said Emerald.
