Public Safety Athletes Prepare to Compete in Can-Am Police-Fire Games

Shrewsbury, PA - CentreLearn Solutions, LLC, the leading provider of online continuing education for EMS and Fire-Rescue personnel through its online training system, is a sponsor for the rapidly approaching 2014 York Can-Am Police-Fire Games. The eight-day event will feature nearly 60 events from archery to wrestling and will be held in various locations throughout York County, Pennsylvania from July 13 - 20, 2014.

“The event we are most looking forward to supporting is the EMS Skills Competition,” said Greg Friese, Director of Education and Communication for CentreLearn. “The EMS professionals will have to be knowledgeable of different types of injuries and illnesses and ready for anything in a high-stress environment.”

The inclusion of the Emergency Medical Services-specific event is one of many ways the Games’ competitions open themselves up to far more first responders than the name of the Can-Am Police-Fire Games might indicate. The EMS Skills Competition is designed to test a team’s skills in seven different stages. A team’s final score is based on proficiency and timeliness, with the major emphasis on proficiency.

“The Can-Am Games EMS Skills Competition will strive to challenge, educate and entertain,” said Matt Giacopelli, Event Coordinator and Paramedic. “Teams of three will go for the gold and show what they do every day – the best they can to save a life.”

EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and police officers need to be operational athletes to perform their jobs effectively and safely. The CentreLearn Training System offers online training courses that allow emergency responders to train on duty, as individuals or as a group, which frees up valuable time for on or off duty fitness and wellness activities. The CentreLearn course catalog includes online courses on functional fitness, ergonomics, lifting and back safety, sports medicine, and many more. Learn more at CentreLearn.com. Train Better. About the York Can-Am Police-Fire Games

This year marks the first time the Can-Am Police-Fire Games has been held in Pennsylvania or on the East Coast of the United States, even further expanding the opportunity for many first responders to discover and compete in the event. Proceeds from the Games benefit Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Wish Kids will present medals to winning athletes, participate in the Opening Ceremonies, volunteer at events and cheer on competitors.

The Can-Am Police-Fire Games started as the Northwest Police-Fire Games in 1977, later reorganizing under the Can-Am Police-Fire Games name and opening up the event to a range of emergency services and first responders.
