Mississippi Ambulance Crew Killed in Collision

PIAVE, Mississippi - An ambulance crew was killed in an accident with a semi-truck in Greene County according to the county emergency management director.

The Clarion-Ledger reported that the Heidelberg station ambulance was responding to a call on Highway 63 when it collided with a truck carrying a bulldozer near Piave. Both vehicles had burst into flames after impact. The EMS crew was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Brent Barfield stated that the driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Barfield said the ambulance was traveling northbound on Highway 63 when it tried to overtake two other trucks. After passing the first truck, the truck driven by Bexley suddenly made a left turn into the southbound lane where the ambulance struck the truck in the front left axle.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

The names of the EMS crew have not been released.
