EMS Receives American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline Silver Award

pp

Austin-Travis County EMS is pleased to announce that it has received the American Heart Association’s highest level of recognition and has been designated a Silver EMS Agency with the Mission: Lifeline Program. The designation recognizes its success and commitment in implementing specific quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who suffer a severe heart attack known as a STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction).

Every year, almost 300,000 people experience a STEMI. This is a type of heart attack caused by a complete blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires timely treatment in order to prevent death, and restore blood flow as quickly as possible.

The American Heart Association (AHA) recognizes the vital importance Emergency Medical System providers provide to the overall success of Mission: Lifeline STEMI Systems of Care. The correct tools and training allow EMS providers to rapidly identify the STEMI, promptly notify the medical facility and trigger an early response from the awaiting hospital personnel.

As an EMS agency that delivers education in STEMI identification, provides access to cardiac monitors and develops protocols derived from AHA STEMI Guidelines, ATCEMS medics are driving improvements in the care and outcomes of STEMI patients.

The men and women of Austin-Travis County EMS are dedicated to making our Department among the best in the country, and the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program is helping us accomplish that goal.  We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and achievements in emergency medical care for STEMI patients.
