Two Injured in New Mexico Balloon Crash

APBalloonCrash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — University of New Mexico Hospital officials say the passenger in a fiery crash at Albuquerque's annual balloon fiesta remains in critical condition Thursday.

Authorities say 66-year-old Daniel Lovato was shocked and severely burned after the balloon struck power lines and fell 40 feet.

The pilot, 59-year-old Mark Kilgore, also was injured.

Fiesta officials say they are investigating the crash and have reported it to the Federal Aviation Administration.

While balloons occasionally get tangled in power lines, it was the first serious accident during the festival in several years.

In 2009, a man was killed after a fiery collision with power lines. Another man was injured that year after falling from a gondola.

In 2007, a woman fell to her death after a balloon snagged a power line.
