Texas Police Pursuit Ends With Carnage

MISSION, Texas (AP) — A woman who witnessed the conclusion of a high-speed chase in South Texas that left six people dead described a scene of carnage at the corner of her front yard.

Diana Ramirez said Tuesday that she ran barefoot from her porch Monday afternoon after hearing the violent collision northwest of Mission and found a destroyed SUV surrounded by victims and body parts.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has not released the identities of the victims, but said late Monday that one of its sergeants was involved in the pursuit of a pickup when the crash occurred. The driver was arrested.

Ramirez said the fleeing pickup had hit the SUV as it flew through the intersection. The 42-year-old said she believes all of those who died were in the SUV.
