Police were called to the H-E-B on Robert Drive at Alameda Street about 1:20 p.m. after the boy's mother returned to her SUV and found the boy inside, still strapped into his car seat.

Initial reports were that the child was unconscious when found; Corpus Christi Police Lt. Patrick McMenamy said the child was described to him as lethargic.

"The mother left her child in the vehicle while she was inside grocery shopping. She came outside and found the child and somehow the child survived," McMenamy said.

The high temperature Wednesday was 93 degrees. McMenamy couldn't say how hot it may have been in the SUV.

Corpus Christi firefighter/ paramedics took the boy, whose exact age was not released, to Driscoll. Police will continue to investigate.
