Fundraisers Planned for Injured Florida Paramedic, Family

As a Naples firefighter, Corey Adamski is used to responding to emergencies.

JEMS: Florida Paramedic, Family Still Hospitalized after July 4 Crash

Now, some of his local firefighter "brothers" are coming to his aid, garnering support for Adamski and his family who were hospitalized after a deadly Fourth of July crash.

The Collier Professional Firefighters & Paramedics union, which represents Golden Gate and East Naples firefighters, is hosting a fundraiser for the Adamskis at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at South Street, 1410 Pine Ridge Road. The fundraiser will feature a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.

"As a local, we feel that the brotherhood of the fire department is very important," said Matthew Trent, the union's treasurer. "Anything tragic like this happens to anybody in any emergency service job ... obviously we look to be there for one another."

People looking to chip in before that can attend benefit cookouts this Saturday at all six Collier and Lee county Sunshine Ace Hardware stores. Sunshine Ace is providing the food and drink for the cookouts, which run from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Donations collected during the cookouts will go directly to the Adamski family.

"This is a tragic cause to be collecting for, but the Adamski family needs the community's support to overcome the hurdles they face," Katie Wynn-Traina, a Sunshine Ace employee who his helping to coordinate the cookouts, said in a prepared statement.

Adamski, 26, his wife, Kristina Adamski, 25, and their daughters Grace, 6, and Chloe, 3, were driving home around 10:15 p.m. Thursday from a July Fourth gathering in Lee County when their Chevrolet Blazer was struck head-on by a Nissan sedan on State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres.

Robert Thomas Bridwell, 37, the driver of the Nissan, was killed. The Adamskis were hospitalized. Kristina Adamski was eight months pregnant at the time. The baby, Penelope, was delivered by emergency cesarean section but was taken off life support Sunday and died.

Corey Adamski could be hospitalized for at least another week as he recovers from his injuries. Trent said his colleagues are trying to raise money to help in any way they can, whether it be keeping the grass cut or keeping the lights on.

"This is going to be a long and slow recovery," Trent said. "This is one of those things where you don't just recover and come back to being a firefighter. Being a firefighter is a very strenuous job. It's hard."

Several funds have been set up to help the Adamski family. To donate, visit any Fifth Third Bank in the state and contribute to the Adamski Family Relief Fund. Or visit http://www.gofundme.com/3hvl4s to contribute to a separate online fund.

Anyone interested in donating an item to the raffle or silent auction can email Matthew Trent at matthewtrent144@yahoo.com or Christopher Rossi at cjr139@gmail.com
