LAFD’s EMS Plan for Dodger Stadium Criticized

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Plans to hire the Los Angeles Fire Department to provide medical care at Dodger Stadium are facing criticism for depleting the city's resources and not drawing enough payment.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/13KgZuh ) fire officials said Tuesday that they have reassigned firefighters to the task of watching the ballpark for lack of volunteers.

Fire commissioner Alan Skobin says if the baseball team can spend $20 million for a player, they should pay the city more money for the service.

Department officials defended the plan, saying serving the stadium's large crowds is part of the department's mission.

Chief Brian Cummings said the cost to the city is minimal, and asked if the cost would be worth it to public safety.
