Ambulance, Moose Collide in Maine

CONNOR TOWNSHIP, Maine -- An ambulance hit a moose Monday evening on Route 1, but the driver and passengers all escaped injury, according to a Maine State Police press release.

Benjamin Zetterman, 29, of Connor was operating a 2006 Ford ambulance owned by the town of Van Buren at around 7:40 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, heading southbound on Route One in Connor Township. As the ambulance approached the intersection with the Jemtland Road, a moose entered the road and was struck by the ambulance.

Zetterman and another ambulance attendant were in the process of transferring a patient when the accident took place. Neither of the two ambulance attendants nor the elderly patient suffered any injuries from the crash. The patient was transferred from the crash scene by the Caribou Ambulance Service. The Van Buren ambulance had minor front end damage and was driven from the scene.
