Paddleboarding Paramedic Joins 1,000-Mile Charity Expedition

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- A paddling paramedic will join a 1,000-mile charity expedition down the Missouri River. David Zaple, aged 22, of Plympton, will provide medical support during the trip in the USA.

The former Hele's School pupil, who flies to America on Monday, will travel down the river on a stand-up paddleboard.

He is part of a team of seven supporting world record breaking British adventurer Dave Cornthwaite who is swimming the entire distance.

The challenge is raising money for breast cancer charity Coppafeel.

David, who recently qualified as a paramedic, said: "I love travelling and adventure. Combining the two with raising money for an amazing charity was something I simply had to get involved with. It will be fantastic way to use my skills to help with an incredible expedition."

He said he applied to join the expedition after reading about it online.

The challenge is part of Dave Cornthwaite's Expedition1000 initiative, in which he aims to complete 25 1,000-mile journeys, each using a different form of non-motorised transport. This will be his seventh.
