Stat-Southcoast Chosen to Provide 9-1-1 Ambulance Coverage for America’s Cup Race in Newport

DARTMOUTH, Mass. and NEWPORT, R.I. -- Stat-Southcoast EMS, a leading provider of emergency and non-emergency medical transportation and related services through the SouthCoast and Rhode Island region, has been selected to be the ambulance provider for the prestigious America’s Cup Races held in Newport, RI.

Stat-Southcoast will provide multiple ambulances, along with Paramedics and EMTs for coverage at the Narragansett Bay event, in the event of a medical emergency either for the racers or the audience.

For the first time, America's Cup racing will be held inside Narragansett Bay, with spectator views of the race course from the AC Village at Fort Adams. The regatta offers the opportunity to watch the world’s top sailors compete in the state-of-the-art AC45 wing-sailed catamarans, which will also be the first time the high-tech boats will be raced on the east coast of the U.S. The event runs from June 26 to July 1 and the area is open as of June 23.

Newport, Rhode Island is the final stop. In addition to being the first American host of the high-tech AC45 wing-sailed catamarans in 2012, Newport will be the site where the first AC World Series circuit champion will be crowned. The highlight of each AC World Series stop is the spectacular, winner-takes-all, fleet race on final Sunday, July 1, where teams put points on the board to take the overall title. The America’s Cup has a 160 year history.

The AC World Series features tight, short racecourses designed to deliver close racing for the fans on shore as well as the online and TV audiences. The regatta format includes speed trials, head-to-head match racing, and all-out fleet racing with 9 identical AC45s on the line.

“It is quite an honor for us to have been selected to provide this service for such an historical event,” said Carol Mansfield, CEO of Stat-Southcoast EMS. She added, “We bring the latest, state-of-the-art equipment and our top team of paramedics to be ready should our services be needed.” She added, “We wish all the racers best of luck and hope that the spectators enjoy what we are sure will be a great show.”
