Woman Kicked Paramedic in Face as He Treated Her

Drunken barmaid Mandy Bryan kicked a paramedic in the face -- as he tried to check her blood pressure.

The trainee teaching assistant had been found slumped in the toilet of a Stafford pub.

But the paramedics suspected Bryan was pretending to be unconscious and was taken to the pub's living quarters.

The defendant was then sick before she kicked paramedic David Jenkinson hard on the right side of the face.

After that, she pretended to be asleep, and later got up and made her own way out of the pub. Mr Jenkinson was treated in hospital for a suspected hairline fracture of the cheek.

Stephen Bailey, mitigating, said Bryan was training to be a teaching assistant and was hoping to be offered a job, if she avoided custody.

Bryan, aged 28, of Booth Street, Chesterton, who admitted assault, was yesterday handed a fourmonth prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £350 compensation. Judge Paul Glenn told her: I take a serious view of this case. "The victim is a paramedic simply trying to do his job and help you.

"He was upset because he was offering assistance to a patient. "You got yourself in to this state by drinking an obscene mixture of alcohol.

"You were pretending to be more ill than you were.

I would normally send someone to prison for this -- your previous good character and guilty plea is just about enough to suspend it, but it''s been a close run thing.
