Maryland EMS Coordinator Critically Injured in Crash

EASTON, Md. - A Washington County emergency medical services coordinator was critically injured after an accident Thursday night on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

The Herald-Mail reports that Bridgette Elaine Heller was transported to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in critical condition. Heller's daughter was taken to Memorial Hospital in Easton with minor injuries.

Police report that a 17-year old driver fell asleep while travelling west on Route 50. His vehicle crossed into the median and collided with Heller's vehicle in the eastbound lane.

Brigitte Heller serves as the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator for Washington County’s Division of Emergency Services. According to Kevin Lewis, Director of Washington County Emergency Services, Heller works with the county’s volunteer emergency services crews on their training and other education. She also works on advanced life-support and basic life-support certifications and is a state instructor for the University of Maryland's Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.
