Va. Man Unaware He Was Shot in Head

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- When police officers responded to Level Green to investigate a reported assault Friday night, they found something unusual: a man who didn't realize he'd been shot in the head.

Dispatchers received the call shortly before 9 p.m., and officers found the victim bleeding from the forehead in the 6000 block of Tradewinds Road, Officer Grazia Moyers, a police spokeswoman, said Monday.

The victim's roommate told police two men jumped the victim and fled, Moyers said. The victim, whom police didn't identify, was conscious but unable to speak, she said.

Medics determined the man had a gunshot wound, Moyers said. They transported him to a hospital for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries.

Detectives are investigating.
