SIGS Demonstrates Rapid Response Emergency Communications System at CWID 2011

Spacenet Integrated Government Solutions, Inc. (SIGS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilat Satellite Networks (NASDAQ: GILT), , announced today that it successfully demonstrated its rapidly deployable Emergency Communications System (ECS) during a Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID 2011) event held from May 23 to June 16, 2011. SIGS participated in the event as Trial 3.08 Spacenet Emergency Communications System (ECS), in support of the trial objective, to demonstrate technologies designed to enhance Coalition Tactical Edge Command, C4ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) capabilities. SIGS’s trial was conducted at Peterson AFB, CO and at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) facility in San Diego, CA. The assessment results were captured in the recently published CWID’s annual final report.

“It was a privilege to be selected to participate in the annual CWID information sharing, technology-discovery, risk reduction, interoperability testing and assessment event”, said SIGS’ CEO, Susan Miller. This event provided us with a unique opportunity to showcase our capabilities and the easy implementation of our satellite-based ECS solution. ECS allows users to rapidly access mission-critical applications, facilitate user coordination and collaboration, and provide increased situational awareness and interoperability among military, civil authorities and first responders. But the highlight of the CWID assessment was, in my opinion, the direct feedback received from the warfighters themselves. Their comments focused on the ease of set-up and use, system reliability, flexibility, portability, and above all, on ECS’ utility in supporting the mission goals and objectives of military, homeland defense and civil authorities.”

SIGS’ Emergency Communication Service offers a rapidly deployable, mobile, scalable, and flexible satellite communications platform intended to support emergency response and Continuity of Operations (COOP). ECS’ on-demand services, interoperable converged communication capabilities, access to various data applications (email, internet, and private networks), video streaming and voice make it a very affordable solution without compromising on performance.

Because of SIGS flexible, mobile hardware options, ECS is an excellent tool for enhancing tactical edge C4ISR capabilities. The platform supports standards-based DVB-S2/DVB-RCS technology and can be modified to support Department of Defense MIL-STDs, NATO STANAGs and individual end-user requirements, and can be easily installed at fixed locations or integrated into mobile command vehicles.

CWID is a Chairman of the Join Chiefs of Staff initiative instituted to identify new and emerging information technologies for the military and Homeland Security/Homeland Defense to aid in protecting the nation’s borders and enable advanced emergency response to national crisis.CWID 2011 technologies focused on potentially solving existing command and control (C2), communication systems, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) near-term coalition capability gaps as defined by United States (U.S.) Combatant Commanders, the Military Services, governmental agencies and coalition partners. With the defense department becoming increasingly more reliant on network services, CWID requirements have shifted toward more diverse and secure network paths to bring critical operational and intel information to the military in combat. As a result, this year’s trial focused on tools to enhance network services among many others. All assessment results are captured in the recently published CWID’s annual final report which can be found at: http://www.cwid.org/2011%20Final%20Report/htmlfiles/308land.html#obj
