MONOC Receives Funding for Mass Casualty Response Unit

As a member of the New Jersey EMS Task Force, MONOC has received funding through the Port Security Grant - Sector Delaware to obtain a Mass Casualty Response Unit (MCRU). The MCRU is a vehicle designed to carry medical supplies and equipment to provide care for up to 100 patients at a time. The vehicle will be stocked with both basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) supplies and equipment. Equipment on board will include poisonous gas meters, radiation detectors, defibrillators, mass casualty triage vests and tags, multi-patient oxygen delivery systems, long boards for moving injured patients, advanced airways, and a full complement of medications that would otherwise be carried on a paramedic unit. This MCRU is one of only 12 in New Jersey and is designed to support medical operations in the state’s 10 southern counties. Both Ocean County and Monmouth County Offices of Emergency Management’s Division of EMS have endorsed MONOC as a recipient of this grant.

The mission of the Task Force is to provide highly trained, and well-equipped personnel; along with specialized EMS resources to support operations at major incidents and pre-planned events. The vehicles assets include Technology Support Units, Special Operations Vehicles, Mass Care Response Units, and off road patient transport units.

The New Jersey EMS Task Force operates under the direction of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of the Public Health Infrastructure Laboratories and Emergency Preparedness. It is comprised of volunteer members from all types of emergency medical service agencies.
