Medics Honored at California EMS Authority Awards

NOVATO, Calif. -- A Marin County firefighter-paramedic and a Novato emergency medical technician are among the honorees in the 2011 California Emergency Medical Services Authority Awards.

Tony Giacomini, a county firefighter since 1995, was recognized in the lifesaving category for an off-duty incident in April, when he resuscitated a tennis opponent who had a heart attack. Giacomini lives in Petaluma.

Catherine Rucker, an emergency medical technician, was given the EMT of the Year Award for "commitment to EMS, community, and service reflecting the professional EMT." Rucker is also the widow of Novato firefighter Steven Rucker, who died in the 2003 Cedar fire.

The Civilian Award was given to members of an Alamo family Merle, Eric, Henry and Ethan Hall who rescued a jumper from the Golden Gate Bridge. The Halls were sailing near the bridge on April 17 when they pulled the injured jumper from the water.

The awards luncheon will be held Dec. 7 at the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel in San Francisco.
