Three Dead, Four Hurt In Utah Crash

SALT LAKE CITY - Authorities say three people are dead and four people were hurt in a four-vehicle crash on a state highway outside Salt Lake City.

The Utah Highway Patrol reports that three passengers in a sport utility vehicle were killed when the vehicle hit a car, swerved into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a pickup truck a little before noon Monday on State Road 201 in Salt Lake County.

KUTV-TV reports the the driver of the SUV was hospitalized in critical condition. A mother and two children in the car were hurt when their vehicle was hit by another vehicle.

Authorities say the pickup driver and the driver of the other vehicle escaped serious injury.

The Utah Highway Patrol was investigating why the SUV lost control.
