Person Found Dead in Car Underneath Big Rig in Concord

CONCORD, Calif. -- An ambulance on routine duty Sunday night found a person dead inside a car that had crashed into a parked big rig, police said.

An American Medical Response unit was traveling on Port Chicago Highway underneath the Highway 4 overpass when it made the discovery about 11:05 p.m., said Concord police Cpl. Kerry Cerletti. The small BMW sedan was wedged underneath the big rig.

The car's driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Cerletti said police received no calls about a crash in the area, and did not learn about the incident until they were notified by AMR. It is not clear how long the decedent and car were under the rig, nor was it immediately known when the crash occurred.

The incident is under investigation.
