Colorado Paramedic Named Best in State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- A Colorado Springs paramedic has been named the best in the state.

American Medical Response paramedic James JT Orta has earned the Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic of the Year award from the Emergency Medical Services Association of Colorado and the Emergency Medical and Trauma Services section of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, EMSA officials said.

Orta has been a paramedic in Colorado for 16 years, the past three in Colorado Springs, officials said.

It is not a single event that outlines James as a true leader in the health care community, said his coworker, James McLaughlin.

It s also his ability to sit around with noninjured victims for hours listening to them and helping them as he could.

Orta will be recognized Nov. 10 at the annual Colorado State EMS Conference in Keystone.
