Paramedics describe car bomb find

The two paramedics who noticed smoke from a Mercedes outside a central London nightclub told BBC about their experiences. "We can't have been inside for more than a few minutes and as soon as we got outside we smelt gas again," says one paramedic about the London car bomb packed with petrol, gas cylinders and nails.

The two-man crew was responding to a call for a head injury at the nightclub when they noticed the car and a "funny smell of gas."

"At that stage our priority was to find and help the patient we had been called to," says one paramedic.

After treating the patient, who did not require transport, the crew found the suspicious vehicle still parked out front. "Then we saw the jet of smoke was still there so we got straight on the radio to our control room and asked them to call the police and the fire brigade."

The crew's attention to this suspicion without abandoning their patient shows professionalism and sound judgement.
