Hands On: Command Portability Pt 5

Command Portability: Transform any vehicle into a Command Post

I have yet to see an EMS vehicle with excess storage space, and EMS command vehicles that carry MCI gear have even less space. At major incidents and prolonged deployments, the ability for EMS command to be visible, under adequate cover and organized, as well as manage data and review guidelines, are all important. Here are six products that can help you initiate command operations long before the mobile-home-size command post arrives on scene. The big bonus: All six products will fit inside a mid-size duffel bag.

Command Concepts Command Board

Having an organized work space and the ability to easily track assets deployed at a major incident goes a long way to lessen the ÏclusterÓ factor. The Command Board from Command Concepts is a portable, rapidly deployable system of dry erase boards, clipboards and formatted worksheets designed to keep the incident, section and unit commanders organized. The Standard Board (30"_ 55" open, 16"_ 22" closed) is a good size for the incident commander, and the Compact Board (30"_ 30" open, 14"_ 12" closed) is ideal for unit commanders. Command Boards range in price from $140 for the Compact Board without any ICS forms to $275 for the Deluxe Board (30"_ 68" open, 16"_ 24" closed) packaged with ICS forms.Ü
