2006 JEMS Salary and Workplace Survey

The average American works a minimum of 2,000 hours a year. That's equal to roughly one quarter of our lives and almost half of our awake time. EMS personnel, because of the nature of their shift schedules, may work even more -- averaging as much as 2,800 hours a year on a 56-hour workweek.
