City Fire Chief to Retire Amid EMS Uproar

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Hackensack Fire Chief Joel Thornton has announced his retirement, saying he is stepping down to dedicate more time to his family after more than three decades as a firefighter. I have had better than 31 very productive years with the Hackensack Fire Department, he said. "It's just my time."
