Trauma Center Opens at Pocono Medical Center

Trish Hartman | | Friday, October 24, 2008

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. -- A hospital in the Poconos is stepping up its emergency room and getting ready for more patients.

Doctor David Scaff showed off the new trauma bay Thursday at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He is the new medical director of trauma, now that the hospital is officially an accredited level three trauma center.

"The citizens of Monroe County have their own trauma center here so no longer do they have to spend 20 minutes in a helicopter or 40 to 50 minutes in an ambulance," Scaff said.

Until now, major trauma patients often had to be taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital or Community Medical Center in Scranton.
